MasterChef winner Tom Rhodes reveals the secret taste of summer.
Four out of five Brits will be staycationing this year. So, we caught up with this year’s MasterChef winner Tom Rhodes for a few cooking tips.
Tom revealed the key ingredient he’s using in his dishes to bring the taste of the med home this summer. He also shared some super simple recipes that anyone can try.
The recipe for success
31-year-old Tom wowed MasterChef judges in April this year with his unique European style of cooking. Tom said the highlight of the competition, besides winning, was the time he cooked at Le Gavroche.
“I get really inspired by fantastic ingredients.” Tom told us. “And I love Waitrose’s new range of artisan products.”
The key ingredient
“Take this delicious Nduja paste for example”. He said. “It’s incredibly versatile and can be used in many different dishes and gives a real depth of flavour.”
Nduja is a salami paste made in Calabria, in southwest Italy. It’s a sun-drenched region of picturesque mountains, quaint old-fashioned villages and dramatic coastline, with lots of beaches.
Make perfect pasta
Tom said “There really is no end to what you can do with this ingredient, it’s a staple in my kitchen these days. One of my favourite dishes is Nduja, tomato and basil penne. So simple, and it’s bursting with flavour!”
Spread it on bread
“I wouldn’t class this one as a recipe, but it’s something you have to try, trust me”. Tom told us. “Simply spread Nduja on toasted ciabatta, top with sliced tomatoes, and hey presto – you’re in taste heaven!”
Waitrose Nduja paste is one of a select range of artisan products available now, either online or in-store.
